To those who wonder why I'm going digital - it's a long story but to sum it up; my stamp manufacture sadly passed away, my shipper has breast cancer, the border going to our USA warehouse is crazy lined up and my husband is retired and wants me to slow down.   It's time for a change!
Digital makes sense and it has so many fabulous benefit's - which I will show you in my next post.

Thanks for all your support!

2 Winners, Shabby Layout, Tag and Card, Bird Bath Table Re-do

Hi Everyone,

We have winners for our August Linky Party and the Giveaway, plus some new samples and links to share.  We had 21 entries in the Linky Party and Cynthia Olheiser was the lucky random.org winner and Debbie Kaste won our Giveaway for Born to Fly Stamp Set, Digital Set, 4 sheets of freezer paper and of printable canvas.  Congrats to all the other fabulous entries who won a $6.00 gift card.

You may have seen the cute cookie box and card that Cammie posted in the Linky Party but did you see her faux tattoo she added to her photo digitally afterwards.  It fooled me and got me thinking about the Temporary Tattoo Transfer Sheets from Silhouette. You could take a colored image (so if Cammie colored this digital stamp) and print it on the tattoo paper.

I came back to add this  wonderful layout by DT Member Sheila Rumney that she posted today of her pretty daughter  as she gets ready to head off to college next week. Sheila used our 99 cent Double Classic Damask Printable Paper and the watch, pin and stud are from CD 1 Creating With Vintage Typography.

DT Member Kathy Clement created a really cool vintage beach tag using the bathing beauties from our Calendar Scraps and the cracked glass technique and I love all the elements she added.  She has all the details and more photos here.

Here's a pretty card by DT Member Rebekah Fairies who used a frame from our Halloween CD with some printable papers from CD #1 and the sentiment stamp from is from our Best Buds Mini Stamp Set.

I thought I would share one of my little DIY make-overs that was free and fast. We spotted this metal birdbath along side the road on garbage day and I didn't need another birdbath but I thought it would make a great small table. I painted it cream and antiqued it with a brown glaze I had, added some glass stones and a friend has a glass place and cut us a top.  Just be sure to get the edges brushed smooth.

It fits between the chair and wall perfectly in our living room

I also started a couple of new Pintrest Boards.  One with great DIY Creative Ideas by other people like these beautiful candle torch poles I saw that inspired me to collect glass pieces to make 3 for a wedding next year.

I'm also really into healthy recipes and have found so many great ones on the internet I wanted to share so I started a Yummy & Healthy Board.

We finally got some rain but I heard some bad weather reports across the USA with flooding in many spots. I'm sending sunshine wishes to all!

 Until next time

Wishing you joy and creativity
Sandy

Welcome to August Linky Party, DT Challenge Tutorials & Giveaway!

Welcome to our August Linky Party and Design Team Challenge! I decided last minute to add a fun giveaway after I finished my fairy dress (explained below).  First, check out the fabulous projects by our talented Design Team and hopefully you will be inspired to post one of your samples using any Crafty Secrets image here in our Linky Party!

Vicki Chrisman

Elizabeth Lincoln

One day I hope to have a granddaughter so when I’m out and about I often can’t resist buying cute stuff for little girls and picked up some adorable little girl slips at the church thrift store and decided to add a little fairy and some lace to this plain slip dress. When I was taking the photo a rainbow went across it from a crystal in my window, which I thought was 'fairy' appropriate.

I used our new Born to Fly Digital Fairy Set  and printed it on cotton fabric using freezer paper. I'm so excited about the versatility that digital offers I want to convince everyone to try it - so my Giveaway is for our last Born to Fly Clear Art Stamp Set - plus the digital version of Born to Fly and 4 sheets of 8.5 x 11" freezer paper and 4 sheets of printable canvas! NOTE: If you already have this set you can swap them for any others. Winner announced this Friday, Aug  9/13.

I used Photoshop Elements to add my different images together, change the color to brown and  re-size them smaller to fit the dress

The arrows below show the steps on how I changed the color from black to brown but you can find links to many more in depth tutorials on re-sizing and changing colors including some by DT Member Sheila Rumney here on our Pintrest Tutorial Board. Often, I just use Paint to crop, re-size and add text.  Paint is pre-installed on many computers or you can  GetPaint.net  for free or Gimp for Mac computers to edit images.

I love using freezer paper to print images or you can create pattern fabric by printing our digital paper designs on fabric.  You can buy freezer paper on the roll in many grocery stores, it's like wax paper but only waxy on 1 side.  That's the side you iron onto a pieces of fabric so it will be stiff enough to feed through your printer. Note: some printers are picky, so if you can't print on card stock it may not work. My Canon IX620 works like a charm and prints up to 13" x 19".

I cheat and buy the pre-cut sheets of freezer paper, then iron a bunch to fabric and trim it with my paper trimmer.  I like to recycle and cut up white sheets or cotton remnants I buy at the church thrift store.

TIPS: If you ever have a problem with ink bleeding when you are trying to color a inkjet printed digital stamp try leaving it overnight, or heat set it with a heat tool or hair dryer, or give it a spray of Krylon Finish.   Krylon also works fantastic for sealing printed paper when doing decoupage.       Also, if you hate paying full price for ink, try quality compatible no-name ink. Vicki, Elzizabeth and myself all use the inkfarm.com and have saved and now they have offered all Crafty Secrets customers Free S&H and 15% off every order - forever!  Just use our special code: craftyink

I went in the garage and gave my fabric printed image a spray with Krylon Matte Finish as I wanted to use my watercolor pencils to color it right away.

Here's a close up photo. Don't look at my messy stitching, I did it down at our trailer on the patio and was too busy visiting with family and friends to pay good attention.

I added lace around my image I frayed and stitched on some pink ric-rac and tied knots in some pink tulle to make bows, 1 for top, 3 for bottom. Found the sweet pink flower in my stash.

You can also see a previous post List of Digital Tips and Helpful Links

I kept seeing great veggie cards DT Member Michele Kovack created using  Inktense Watercolor Pencils. and had to order a set. I love that the pencils are permanent once they dry - even on fabric!

Leave any comment to be entered to win our Giveaway but I would love to hear if you ever use digital images or stamps and what you love or don't? If not, why you don't like them or what your concern is?  Winner announced next Fri, Aug 9/13

Okay, now it's your turn to post any project  you have created using a Crafty Secrets image or product. You have all week and can enter up to 4 samples. Each person will receive a $6.00 gift card to use in our www.craftyvintagegirl.com store (1 per person), and 1 lucky random.org winner will get a $50.00 Gift Card!
