Hi Everyone,
I have some adorable projects to share including a little Baby Onesie I just finished, a peek at Vicki's New Recipe Accucut Die, a report on my new Cannon large format printer, great samples and some cool things you can use Dropbox for! It's a free program that we have been using to store large files like our Valentine Download Kit. Jan 2013 Update: Our Vintage Valentine Digital Kit is available now for immediate download in our www.craftyvintagegirl.com Store! Plus see Be Mine Valentine Digi Stamps!
Why do I love Dropbox so much? It’s free and I can store and back up large files, organize photos, music, videos, digital images and projects in themes, but you can also link it to all your computers, ipad, most cell phones, etc. You can make a shopping list or add your travel documents and then see them while out later on your phone and even add items to your list. It’s also secure and has a memory so you can retrieve files if you accidentally delete them. You can also share individual folders such as a photo album with relatives and it won’t take up space on their computer because the files are actually stored securely on Dropbox.
I bought this pink onesie at Dollar Tree and used our Valentine Kit to create an iron on transfer by opening up the page of 'Red Card Back Sides" with Paint (a free program on many computers) or you can get the newer free version of Paint.net HERE. I clicked on the little eraser tool and removed the To and From and then used the Text tool to spell JANE for our friends grand daughter. Don't forget to flip or mirror the image before printing it on heat transfer paper. I cut out the heart and ironed it on and viola - a cute gift.
Here is a cute card Jan Hennings created using the same image and other pieces from the kit. You can see another sweet card and jar on Jan's Blog.
I got my Cannon IX6520 Printer hooked up that I wrote about here and I love it. It took longer than planned as I had to add a router hub so Cindy and I can share it.
The Pros: It will print up to 13" x 19". Nice sleek design. The colors printed good and my other Canon compatible inexpensive ink from the Ink Farm will work in this printer. Vicki also switched to this ink and said she hardly noticed a difference.
The Cons: I wish it had a scanner and copier but geeez - it was under $200, so I just saved my other printer for copying. The price keeps changing and now it's just over $200. I would have been nice if the manual was printed rather than online but I can print it. You also need to be careful what size it's set on as it reverted back from my Photoshop Elements size. Test on scrap paper before printing on the good stuff.
Here is the Table of Contents for the Instructions Manuel
I need to play with the settings to make it print a 12 x 12" borderless page but I thought this turned out great, especially as it's just a digital page that Viola emailed me from Singapore and I printed it on the back side of an old piece of thick scrapbook paper. She used paper and images from CD # 2, Creating With Vintage Illustrations. Also, check out the beautiful love card Viola made!

I couldn't find any sheets of plain vellum here but I printed Jane's Heart (at top) on transfer paper and this photo of me on a piece of canvas and the colors were great. Note: I used our Flourish Clear Art Set to stamp some red flourishes across the top and the 2 red designs to the right of the door. I had Scott take this photo of me in Mexico and I took one of him as I fell in love with this funky building and the cat, tree and doors! I'm going to staple them on 2 wood canvas frames I bought at a Dollarama Store here in Canada.
I'm excited for DT Leader Vicki Chrisman who designed couple of new Die Designs that AccuCut just released and one cuts everything for a great Recipe Album, or you can use the designs to create other kitchey cards and crafts. See the other Recipe Book on Vicki's Blog.
I also have a very pretty card that DT member Pam Hooten created here using our new Vintage Valentine $5.00 Download Kit.Look how she stitched the polka-dot hearts.
Lastly, I want to share these photos of our dog Otis that my youngest daughter Chelsea sent me. Otis has been living at her place for the last few weeks and I miss them both since she moved away. He is 12 yrs old, blind and diabetic but he looks like a puppy here and seems so cozy I bet he never wants to come home!
I almost forgot - I'm going to give away a Valentine Kit each day this week! Just post fun ideas here or on our Facebook page on what you have done to make Valentines more fun at your house, at work, for those people you care about. I've added red food coloring to make pink mashed potatoes and cut all sorts of food into heart shapes. Otis was pink one year. I'm making cute packaging with our kit for little gifts to give to my daughters & friends. I also need to surprise my honey. Did you see my List of 32 Creative Ways to Say I Love You?
Wishing you joy & creativity

I hope this counts. On one of the NING groups I'm a member of, everyone wanted to do a Valentine ATCs swap but no one would host. I stepped up, hosted the swap, and everyone has had a great time! They are all loving the fact that someone made their wish come true.

I sent my girl friends a gift package with a Valentine, a SPECIAL Valentine Ornment I make, the fabric bag with candies & a Valentine Hurdy-Gurdie! Another year, I made bags with a Valentine Iron on I made, embroidering the top edges & filled the bags with Homemade Dog & Kitty treats & homemade toys. From our pets to theirs!:) I LOVE VALENTINES!

I am a quilter and of course I have lots of fabric scraps, SO I have been on a "mug rug" kick lately! For Valentine's gifts I will be making these 10x10 inch quilted little mats out of red, pink and valentine prints. They are so cute and perfect for a cup of coffee and a goodie! Everyone who receives one has commented on how unique they are.

I love the projects that Vicki has been making with this kit! I hope to win one so I can try making some of them!
ReplyDeleteI had a dozen red roses delivered to my hubby at work one year...he was teased by his co-workers but he loved it! I drew a big red lipstick heart on our mirror for him to find and notes in his lunch. Valentines Day is the perfect excuse to go all out :)
I am going to make a valentine's day mail box. I saw the idea on Artful Affirmations' blog and it is so cute, I can really crafty secret it up!! All you need to make one is a long box, valentine themed papers and all kinds of images from Crafty Secrets CD.

ReplyDeleteLove all of your vintage products! Everything is so cute!!!

On Valentines Day I called our favorite Pizza Shop and had them make my Husbands Favorite Pizza in a Heart shape. (They thought I was nuts) My husband loved it. I started this about 8 years ago when we didn't have money for a fancy dinner out. Every year since. my pizza shop always asks me, "are you going to get one this year?" They now offer them to the public every Valentines Day. My husband still adores Pizza to a fancy dinner.
ReplyDeleteI received my Valentine download today and I just wanted to say how nice the images are! There are 25 pages of images! I love them!

ReplyDeleteI like to make origami Valentines day cards. When you unfold them they are in the shape of a heart and the middle inside has a heart in it as well in which you can write a message on. I also scrapped a little box and I'm going to pull all of the little papers out of a bag of Hershey's kisses place them inside the box and use them as kiss coupons. Maybe even some Hershey's hugs as well. lol In years past I placed those little glow in the dark stars over our bath tub and drew my husband a nice bath with champagne, candles etc. I filled a box one year with little slips of paper that said I love you in different languages, as signed it to him. And also made him go on a scavenger hunt in our house for his Valentines gift. lolol sigh I love holidays. :) Happy Valentines Day everyone! :)
ReplyDeleteI teach fourth grade and I'm always surprised when the "too cool" kids make their Valentine boxes. The imagination they have when they decorate them with colored paper and paper doilies always makes me smile. Kids can still be kids when they are given the time to explore and unplug for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get one of those printers, love the ideas. I am going to fill clear glass jars with pink and red m&m's and add a cute tag, your kit would make many perfect tags!
ReplyDeleteThe projects are wonderful! This year I am going to put paint on my granddaughter's hands and make a handprint Valentine for her mommy!
ReplyDeleteValentine's is the best-especially vintage. I don't know why my mom would have saved these-or why I got them, but it's a package of vintage stickers! The best.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Becky
Love all the projects and cards by the DT's! Last year I made a dozen roses by dipping strawberries into melted chocolate and sticking a sucker stick into the bottom of each strawberry. Set on wax paper to harden. Then I took all 12 and tied a red ribbon around them and wrapped in clear plastic wrap. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteLove Valentine's Day! This year I am making heart shaped bath fizzies for my granddaughters. They will be presented in heart shaped boxes decorated with Vintage Valentine items and lots of "bling" and lace. Hope everyone enjoys their "lovely" day!
ReplyDeleteMy two nephews are both away at college. I cut out funny dog images from newspaper ads and add them to my Valentines Day cards I send them. They Love it. It makes their day and mine too!
ReplyDelete- DebbieK
Would love to win the valentine package. Love all things Crafty Secrets so I know I'd love it! Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteMary
Love the Valentines kit. Anything vintage is for me!!
ReplyDeleteI very much enjoy decorating papier mache boxes so I appreciated the photo showing the ones decorated for Valentines Day. It gives me lots of ideas for this year's boxes. My youngest son and I had a great time decorating a tree with purchased and hand made Valentines using some of the stamps I've gotten from you.
ReplyDeleteI plan to work with Crafty Secrets products this year for Valentine's Day until my "HEART" is content!!
ReplyDeleteLove that pretty doily valentine! stop by and link up if you have time.Mary
ReplyDeleteI love working with doilies of all sizes tiny ones to larger ones and I can see using them with this kit.
ReplyDeleteI love your images and everything you make. I am a traditional girl, so I love your vintage designs!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just love the vintage look and do so enjoy working with it. I'm a romantic old fashioned kind of gal. So this year for Valentine's Day for our grand children I did some things from our youth. First and foremost, home made cards, then the little heart candy with words on them, a Charlie Brown Valentine movie, some real fun Foster Grants(sun glasses)just for kids! All put in pretty gift bags with heart shaped Mardi Gras beads tied to the handles. Thanks for a chance to win!! Loves, Ruthie
ReplyDeleteI have a Valentine this year and have gone crazy - banner of hearts hanging on my china cabinet, homemade cards, LOVE the idea of pink mashed potatoes( will do that for sure ) , heart balloons ordered to have sent to his work, an I love you coupon book !!!
ReplyDeleteLove your vintage images - thanks for the chance to win !!
Hi Sandy, I absolutely love the valentine samples you and your staff made. sure warms the heart !!!
ReplyDeleteValentines are so sweet and fun! This year I made a Heart flag for my small flag stand that I use outside. I used a simple large red heart and then some red sparkle rick rack to help set it off. I was happy with the way it turned out. I always make my husband a card and his is done but have a few more to do for the rest of my family and friends. He also makes a card for me and one year he did a "candy heart" theme with small wooden hearts and printed the words on them... cute, love etc. He also gave me a jar filled with the "real" candy hearts.
ReplyDeleteI am loving all this Vallytiny stuff you have been designing! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI have a heart shaped cake pan and love to make a Valentine's Day cake for my family. Sweet fun!
ReplyDeleteOh pretty please with Cherries on Top....:) I love Crafty Secrets
ReplyDeleteOne year for all my co-workers, I used the die cut box that closes with 2 hearts on top on (red valentine card stock). I folded all the boxes, left the top hearts open, stuffed with various valentine tissue paper (left edges sticking out the top), and put in a little snack size baggie of mixed jelly bellies. They all loved the colorful boxes left on their desks and enjoyed guessing what flavor jelly belly they were eating!
ReplyDeleteI love to make Valentines, and especially Vintage ones. This year I am using paper doilies & airbrushing them in ecru, pink and red, then embellishing them with glitter hearts I found at Walmart. Fun!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes use wrappers from fancy bar soap to use as backgrounds on cards and then placing a cut out heart in the middle. I ink and sometimes distress the heart and tie a cute little bow on or above the heart. It can really dress up a card.
ReplyDeleteCupcakes, definitely cupcakes for my Valentine's Day gifts. They always get pink icing and red sprinkles or jelly hearts on top. Love your new Valentine's downloads!
ReplyDeleteJan B.
we love the holidays and try to get into each theme.. so we decorate the house and make mostly sweets, cookies cupcakes those kinds of things.. last year I made a valentines banner and now this is its second year up.. thanks for the chance to win.. tu amiga Kat..

I lost my first one so will try again. Valentine's Day is very special to us as it brought us together. We have been now married 42+ years.
ReplyDeleteI have always made heart biscuits and put them in my Hubby's lunch box and also made these for the children.
Our Daughter is the only one who lives close by and she still expects her biscuits.
Now she has twins and I am the babysitter and so this year Hubby and I will babysit together but will take the twins with us for our special dinner. They are now 2In the past I have also decorated the house with hearts too. Last year I made lollipops into flowers using a heart punch for the petals.
Always enjoy your creativity.
Thank you for this opportunity for telling my story.
Gale
I just love it all, I love making Valentines for everyone I love, and Love all your products :)
ReplyDeleteI love to make cupcakes for my kids' Valentine parties at school. I have used red food coloring in the past, but studies have shown food colors are not good for kids, especially if they have ADD. I read that beet juice is a healthy substitute, so I will use that this year. If I win, it would be fun to make little pick "toppers" with the digital kit for the cupcakes! (My husband will need help me with the printing : )
ReplyDeleteI posted on Friday but I don't see the post. I would love a chance to win the valentine download, such great ideas for valentines. I always enjoyed valentines day as a child esp. making valentines for classmates and putting in the mailbox at school and receiving them as well. I ususally make valentines cookies or brownies and box them up in bakery boxes and decorate for the grandchildren. I love making the treats and they love receiving them. Thank you for a chance to win the giveaway. Barbara.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if we are supposed to try again or not! I am making vintage valentines for some girl friends. Also making a box for chocolates to give to my great lady mail carrier.
ReplyDeleteHi ladies, I was out very late last night so I'm just posting the Sat Giveaway Winner now and will announce a new winner later tonight here and on our Facebook page. Thanks for posting all the great ideas!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Gale who met her husband 42 years ago and still makes him & her family heart shaped biscuts every year. Also loved her idea to punch green hearts to make leaves for lollipop flowers
I really like the kit. I'm enjoying seeing vintage products and pictures. I grew up in a time when they were very popular, and love to see them again.
ReplyDeleteI think I posted my comment in the wrong spot. But I did a hunt with my kids and their cousins. The had to find the pieces to a handmade heart shaped puzzle. Put the pieces together to reveal where the treasure was. They found a game and we all got to play. I also tinted our milk one time. My son thought it was an unnatural color and wouldn't drink it. lol
ReplyDeleteA big HEARTfelt congtats to Donna, Nanny Ruth and Gale on winning the Valentine Download Kit!
ReplyDeleteThis year I bought my kids their own set of Prismacolor pencils at a GREAT price on ebay. I am going to make them each a card that says "You color my world!" in rainbow letters. I can't imagine life without them and my husband~ I love them SO MUCH!
I liked to buy all of my fabric after the holiday in clearance for the next season. Then you have the fabric on hand and it was very inexpensive. I then like to make little draw string cloth bags using a red ribbon for the draw string for valentines candy or tokens of Love for all my loved ones. They can then use the bag later, just add sweet smelling lavender and add to your dresser drawer
ReplyDeleteyou post the neatest pics when you're on vacay!! love the pic of the BC parliament lit up at night and the little doggy bed ~ i want one!!
ReplyDeletethanks vicki,
dana paliotta
I have a huge mirror I put vinyl hearts on an lights in my window with a pair of light up lips. The kids like it!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI have been heart garlands that say Love and Be Mine. I bought cheap party hats at the dollar tree and made a template and covered each hat in Valentine's theme paper. I added vintage Valentine's to the front of some and used images from a Rusty Pickle vintage valentine paper on the others. I also made Valentine gift cones this way. Just turned the party hats upside down and filled them with red and pink shredded paper. I plan on filling them with candy and favors for friends and family. I have decorated our home with vintage valentines. prim style hearts, I joined two Valentine swaps hosted by others and also did a few swaps with online friends where we send each other a box full of handmade and store bought Valentine goodies. I love all the wonderful ideals that you share all the time. I have been a customer of Crafty Secrets since 2004 and a design team I was on sent me a box of Craft Secrets products to use with her Mermaid Tears supplies. I love all things vintage and Crafty Secrets products make it easy for me to make altered items and decorative items to display in my primitive/vintage theme home.
Have a wonderful week and I would be honored to win.
Hugs,
Lynn
My husband and I met just before Valentines Day 1974, so I made him a heart-shaped fudge cake with a face on it - a silly smile and big heart-shaped eyes. The next time I got the mail,I was surprised with a giant Valentine from him...and we've been eating and making cake-eyes ever since...now with three kids and six grandkids!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful ideas from everyone! Mine is pretty simple. My daughter and I will be helping my two year old granddaughter decorate cupcakes and then the three of us will walk around her cul-de-sac to pass them out to her neighbors. A new and fun tradition for us :)
ReplyDeleteAnn Marie
lets see I have 4 kids and a husband I adore and this year I plan on making them some handmade valentines & heart shaped pancakes - and send them off with kisses to another day of school & work.

Nice post, great ideas~ I printed out an 8.5 x 11" paper with a small font and the words "how do I love thee, let me count the ways..." in pale ink. Then, in a larger bolder font I printed BE MINE over it. I placed the sheet in a vintage typewriter and set it on an end table in the formal living room!
ReplyDeleteOne year I printed out old b/w photos of show girls into two rolls that looked like film, then I stapled them together into a heart shape. I added red ribbon and gave it to my son as Valentine ornament.
ReplyDeleteI like to make gift packages-usually fill with the persons favorite treats...love to use embellishment holders.
ReplyDeleteHere is a link to one I made a while back http://www.dawnscraft.com/2010/02/valentine-treats-for-sweet.html
Congrats to Dawn the last person to post here Sat and the winner of our Digital Download Vintage Valentine $5.00 Kit. Loved your survival kit idea.
ReplyDeleteEveryone that posts here today (Sun Feb 5) will be entered to win and I will post a winner Sun night
Thanks for chance to win a wonderful giveaway!! Valentine's Day is always special decorating time in our household. My granddaughter is ready to decorate right after Christmas. She has made some really cute cards for her parents. She is only eight but has been crafting already for several years now. Definately has that creativity gene in her!!! Love all of your products, I am working on a heirtage 8x11 cookbook. I have tried to document the origins, history, and cherished memories of each recipe. I have used a lot of your products on this very special heritage cookbook. Thanks so much for all you do.

ReplyDeleteI like to send Valentines to friends I haven't seen in a while. It's an unexpected lift to their day!
ReplyDeleteI made cards and sent hard candy overseas to the troops. I was fortunate to get an address from another blog. I made sure there were cards for children, as well.
ReplyDeleteFor me as a child Valentine's Day meant a card from my dear Dad. Mom got her special one too from Dad. This memory is especially bitter sweet this year as my Dad recently passed away.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win. ForValentine's Day I have made them for all my great grandchildren and pen pals. And have sold quite a few, so need to make more. Most of you are not old enough to remember this Valentine custom. (I'm 92!) We would wait until night, and drop the Valentines on the porch, ring the bell or knock, and then run and hide to see what their reaction is when they come to the door. It was FUN!
ReplyDeleteFor valentines day my parents used to get me a necklace. I have saved them all and they are so special to me.
ReplyDeleteI plan to decorate my house with vintage Valentines handed down to me from my mil. Also, hubby is taking me out this Friday to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteWhat a giveaway! thanks Sandy and have a nice Valentine's Day with your husband and family.
