Welcome to our August Linky Party and Design Team Challenge! I decided last minute to add a fun giveaway after I finished my fairy dress (explained below). First, check out the fabulous projects by our talented Design Team and hopefully you will be inspired to post one of your samples using any Crafty Secrets image here in our Linky Party!

One day I hope to have a granddaughter so when I’m out and
about I often can’t resist buying cute stuff for little girls and picked up
some adorable little girl slips at the church thrift store and decided to add a
little fairy and some lace to this plain slip dress. When I was taking the
photo a rainbow went across it from a crystal in my window, which I thought was
'fairy' appropriate.
I used our new Born to Fly Digital Fairy Set and printed it on cotton fabric using freezer paper. I'm so excited about the versatility that digital offers I want to convince everyone to try it - so my Giveaway is for our last Born to Fly Clear Art Stamp Set - plus the digital version of Born to Fly and 4 sheets of 8.5 x 11" freezer paper and 4 sheets of printable canvas! NOTE: If you already have this set you can swap them for any others. Winner announced this Friday, Aug 9/13.
I used Photoshop Elements to add my different images together, change the color to brown and re-size them smaller to fit the dress
The arrows below show the steps on how I changed the color from black to brown but you can find links to many more in depth tutorials on re-sizing and changing colors including some by DT Member Sheila Rumney here on our Pintrest Tutorial Board. Often, I just use Paint to crop, re-size and add text. Paint is pre-installed on many computers or you can GetPaint.net for free or Gimp for Mac computers to edit images.
I love using freezer paper to print images or you can create pattern fabric by printing our digital paper designs on fabric. You can buy freezer paper on the roll in many grocery stores, it's like wax paper but only waxy on 1 side. That's the side you iron onto a pieces of fabric so it will be stiff enough to feed through your printer. Note: some printers are picky, so if you can't print on card stock it may not work. My Canon IX620 works like a charm and prints up to 13" x 19".
I cheat and buy the pre-cut sheets of freezer paper, then iron a bunch to fabric and trim it with my paper trimmer. I like to recycle and cut up white sheets or cotton remnants I buy at the church thrift store.
TIPS: If you ever have a problem with ink bleeding when you are trying to color a inkjet printed digital stamp try leaving it overnight, or heat set it with a heat tool or hair dryer, or give it a spray of Krylon Finish. Krylon also works fantastic for sealing printed paper when doing decoupage. Also, if you hate paying full price for ink, try quality compatible no-name ink. Vicki, Elzizabeth and myself all use the inkfarm.com and have saved and now they have offered all Crafty Secrets customers Free S&H and 15% off every order - forever! Just use our special code: craftyink
I went in the garage and gave my fabric printed image a spray with Krylon Matte Finish as I wanted to use my watercolor pencils to color it right away.
Here's a close up photo. Don't look at my messy stitching, I did it down at our trailer on the patio and was too busy visiting with family and friends to pay good attention.

I kept seeing great veggie cards DT Member Michele Kovack created using Inktense Watercolor Pencils. and had to order a set. I love that the pencils are permanent once they dry - even on fabric!
Leave any comment to be entered to win our Giveaway but I would love to hear if you ever use digital images or stamps and what you love or don't? If not, why you don't like them or what your concern is? Winner announced next Fri, Aug 9/13

This is precious, Sandy. I have not done any projects with transfers yet. Thanks for the great tutorial! I enjoy using digital images and printables as they are easy to store and the sizing is adjustable to my project.
ReplyDeleteOhhh... that turned out adorable! SUPER CUTE!
ReplyDeletelove this cute little slip. the designs from Crafty Secrets are ideal for any feminine project!
ReplyDeletemy image is printed. now need to get myself busy and get a card finished so I can link it for the party. thanks for doing this every month. it's so much fun! :)
I just love that rubber stamp set, and since it is the last one left, I am going to pray that inlinkz picks me. Ha! I am a rubber stamp lover, I do have some digital stamps, and occasionally use them, but do not enjoy the process. I don't enjoy using the computer, and windows or other programs for them, I just am not a digital girl. That little dress is just adorable and the little fairy image is the perfect touch.
ReplyDeleteI love stamps and use them on almost all my Cards. I like to use digital images to color on my Cards too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling little outfit! Thanks for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteThat little slip turned out so adorable, Sandy! Love the lace trim!!!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on the girl's slip~ so cute!
ReplyDeleteI love stamping and have a great selection of colors and types of ink...love the hands-on process.
Ink in our printer? Leaked inside and dried on the jets, a big clogged mess my husband tried to fix but could'nt. As a one income family of 4, we will not get a new printer soon : ( ......could I use the digital format to print on fabric at a commercial place like Kinkos? I sure love your Heatwarming Vintage designs!
I think I need to try transfers. Too cute!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful ... I absolutely love it. Nope - sorry but I've never worked with transfers but maybe I should!

This shirt is soooo cute! I love it! I have a question...I was wondering if you guys sell the chipboard house anymore? Or, do you have a few left?
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Leticia
Hi Ms Bingles, Do you mean the folding house or the house album with pages? I will look for your email and email you but we have house pages and I will search for any folding houses.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the nice comments everyone!
Sandy

I love the samples. Crafty Secrets have so many great stamps to use as well as give such great examples.
ReplyDeleteI've not tried transfers-yet@! But will if I win, for sure! LOVE the adorable slip!
ReplyDeleteI would certainly be thrilled to win.I would love to try the transfer technique.
ReplyDeleteI love the fairy dress. I have printed on fabric with freezer paper often but never thought of using digital stamps to color. Won't the watercolor pencils wash out? I would love to win the prize too!
ReplyDeletelove love love the fairy dress! It inspired me- I have never used digi stamps, but this would be a great way to make special 'tooth fairy' pillowcases for the nieces!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tutorial. I struggle with sizing. Love the little slip.
ReplyDeleteWow, lots of good info. in this post, Thanks for sharing Sandy. And I love the little slip, that is just to die for. I don't care for the digital thing myself. I prefer the 3D effect, if you will. I like to stamp it myself, add the embellishments and such on my own. I have the Photoshop Elements 7 but haven't forced myself to learn how to use it yet, it's on the list. Must get busy and get my project started for the linky party. Happy Friday!!!
ReplyDeleteThat little dress is darling! How creative and fun!

ReplyDeleteI'd never have thought of making a fairy dress - how dainty! Did you make it to be used, or just to be displayed. I haven't really done much digital, so far what I make is stamped or from scrapbooking paper.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! The beautiful work around the neck so reminds me of the hand work my grandmother did when I was a child.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the tutorial as I would have never figured out how to do this for my new great grand daughter without it!
That slip is absolutely adorable!
ReplyDeletePrecious, Sandy! Love the sweet little dress.
ReplyDeleteI've used digital images and really like them, especially if I am making a card and have little time to create. It's all fun!

Beautiful inspiration as always. I love the dress and that gorgeous altered tequila bottle! Melissa Burnette
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! Your precious little dress turned out beautifully...thank you for the tutorial. No I haven't used digital stamps yet as I'm just not good with the computer and I suppose that makes me a 'stamp snob' , but I really do enjoy the organic effect of playing with my stamps. :) So sorry this stamp set is sold out...hopefully I can win one!

I don't have many digital stamps yet as I still love the process of stamping but I do like the fact that sizes can be changed with digital. i think in the end that could make them more versatile.
